There is never a dull moment during the Oscars, and this year's show was no exception. A LOT went down during the 89th Academy Awards, including amazing performances, heartwarming moments, and so much more.
From Justin Timberlake's energetic show opening to funny moments on the red carpet and even a surprise Hollywood tour through the Dolby Theater (and mini wedding), the Jimmy Kimmel-hosted affair had it all: the good, the touching, the silly, and the powerful. La La Land Gets Accidentally Awarded Best Picture Over Moonlight
Even though La La Land was the most-nominated movie in Oscar history and took home coveted titles, including Best Actress and Best Original Score, the real highlight of the night arrived when the film was accidentally named Best Picture over Moonlight. At the end of the ceremony, Warren Beatty took to the podium with Faye Dunaway and revealed that La La Land was the grand winner, but viewers noticed something funky when production staff rushed to the stage. "I wasn't trying to be funny," Beatty told the crowd afterward, admitting he read the wrong envelope.
Thankfully, the makers of Moonlight received their shine when they took to the stage moments later. "This goes out to all those black and brown boys and girls and non-gender conforming who don’t see themselves, we are trying to show you, you and us, so thank you, thank you, this is for you," Tarell Alvin McCraney said at the podium.
Justin Timberlake's Opening Performance of "Can't Stop The Feeling"/Enormous Dance Party
Justin Timberlake helped kick off the whole shebang with a feel-good performance of his hit song, "Can't Stop the Feeling," bringing all those happy-go-lucky vibes from the music video into the Dolby Theater. Starting the performance outside of the venue, JT danced his way through the crowd, pausing to greet folks every so often, before hitting the main stage. Backed by a number of dancers, a band, and background vocalists, the triple-threat changed the melody of the cut during the second verse and even surprised folks with a brief portion of Bill Withers' 1977 hit "Lovely Day."
Jimmy Kimmel Surprised Hollywood Tourists By Inviting Them To The Oscars
Host Jimmy Kimmel gave a group of unsuspecting Hollywood sightseers the exclusive tour of a lifetime by inviting them to the star-studded affair. The wide-eyed tourists, who were equipped with selfie sticks, were able to walk the front row and score some face time with Keith Urban, Nicole Kidman, Emma Stone and her brother, and other a-listers. Gary from Chicago became the standout from the group by recording the moment from his phone with an unfazed look on his face. Denzel Washington also officiated a mini wedding, and Jennifer Aniston gave up her sunglasses to one of the tourists.

From the islands of Polynesia to the streets of LA, the Oscar-nominated original song "How Far I'll Go" from Disney's Moana made its way to the Sunday ceremony and it was just as pretty as you'd imagine. Cravalho, dressed in a red gown, embellished her performance with dancers waving blue banners to give her set an aquatic aesthetic ... despite a few of the dancers getting a little too close.
Mahershala Ali Becomes First Muslim To Win An Oscar
Major congratulations are in order for actor Mahershala Ali. The talent won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Moonlight at the 89th Academy Awards. This was the very first nomination for Ali, who's been acting for over 15 years now. By Ali winning this Oscar, history was made tonight (Feb. 26). He became the first Muslim to win an Academy award! Being that the United States is currently in a very critical, divided time; this win meant just that much more.

Viola Davis WINS & Makes History
Viola Davis has officially become the first black performer in history to win an Emmy, Tony and Oscar for acting. During the show, the thespian received her first Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Fences. Davis was very emotional when she accepted her trophy at the awards ceremony. She tried her best to hold back tears, as she thanked the Academy, her Fences co-star and director Denzel Washington, late Fences playwright August Wilson, her family and more.
Sting's intimate performance of "The Empty Chair" in tribute to fallen journalist James Foley
Sting appeared at the ceremony to give an intimate and emotional performance of his song "The Empty Chair," which was nominated for Best Original Song. The track, by Sting and J. Ralph, is from Jim, The James Foley Story, a film in tribute to journalist James Foley. James was reporting on the Syrian Civil War in when he was kidnapped and killed on video in August 2014, making him the first American citizen killed by ISIS. For his Oscar performance, the spotlight was on Sting on top of a chair while he played the acoustic guitar, and sang the song's emotional lyrics. "But there's a shaft of light where I count my days/So don't despair of the empty chair.And somehow I'll be there."
